SHARP MARINE SCORES IN W.S.O.P. POKER
2011-06-22
Captain Shortway finds a faster way to wealth
The poker news and information site Pokerlistings carried the interesting story of a Marine officer who clearly knows how to pick winners and play a few successful poker hands of his own this week.
On a three week furlough after an eight month stint in Afghanistan, US Marine Captain Robert Shortway has managed to cash for over $268,000 at the World Series of Poker, the site reports.
The canny officer started out by staking friend and fellow poker fan Justin Zaki in a World Poker Tour Main Event in Florida; Zaki scored a third placing worth $413, 000, which the two split evenly.
Captain Shortway used the cash to head for Las Vegas and indulge in some tournament action himself, a decision that proved to be a smart move.
In just a week so far the captain has enjoyed two WSOP event cashes, one of them a $263,655 third placing in a $1,500 NLHE competition.
Encouraged by his friend Zaki, Shortway has now entered event 35, the $5,000 Six Max Pot Limit Omaha competition despite his relative inexperience in that genre, and as InfoPowa went to press late evening Tuesday Vegas time he was still among the last 21 players from an original field of 507, albeit one of the low stacks.
Not bad going, considering the high ratio of quality players and professionals that entered for the event. He's in good company, with players like Gregory Brooks, Erick Lindgren, Jason Mercier, Vanessa Selbst, Michael McDonald, Tom Dwan, David Ulliott, Peter Jetten and Chris Moorman still in the mix.
As we went to press, the captain was around position 20 at level 18 on the second day of the event and assured of at least a cash of another $16 000.
Just the Facts about Playing Poker Online
2011-02-08
Poker has been a hot favorite of all those who love to indulge in some fun gambling and win a penny or two. However there are people who have made fortunes by playing this quintessential gambling game, there are others who have lost millions too. The fun of playing poker in a casino or club was unmatched until the concept of online gaming was introduced. With ease and comfort at your own doorstep and convenience to choose your own time, your own game and your own session, now you can play poker online.
There are hundreds of websites that offer multiple poker rooms to match everyone’s preference and make them enjoy to the fullest. Poker specials such as sports book poker, Doyle’s poker, Ultimate Bet Poker, Full tilt poker, Bo dog poker, party poker, bet365, carbon poker, titan poker and Hollywood poker are some of the classic games that are available to play poker online. You can decide on the game of your choice and register for the poker session accordingly. The online games tend to serve the purpose of keeping the players glued to the games by offering great prizes and multiple levels to increase the challenge and give some adrenaline rush to every player.
The virtual game sessions are open for players throughout the day and work almost in a similar manner as the real ones, the only difference being that you do not meet the other players face to face and only get to interact with them through your moves and messages across the session. To lure the players into investing more money some poker sites have even launched money back guarantee schemes that offer to return the entire amount invested by the player but of course with terms and conditions attached to it.
There are financial institutions that support the poker web links and offer credits to the player in times of need, although there is an interest charge that is included with the repayment, still many poker players choose to buy credits this way. A word of caution if you intend to invest this way is to ensure that the credits are not bought impulsively. Getting involved into the game and thinking that investing more and more will only ruin your finances that moment so it is best to drop out once you are on the verge of losing your money. More importantly do not play poker when not in the right frame f mind. If you are feeling low or depressed or even extremely excited over something refrain from too much indulgence as you might end up playing more than you should and realize the aftermaths once your hard earned bucks are gone. A balanced thought process is a must in playing something as tricky as poker and since it involved cash, you better be careful of your steps.
If you are new to the poker world you can simply download the poker game and play with your own browser or can learn the nuances of the game by playing free for practice in dummy sessions. This will give you a fair insight into the game and ensure to read the instructions and rules well in advance before you actually start to play poker online with money. Looking at the increased popularity of online poker sessions, the websites have even arranged for 24/7 support services that can help the players if any problems occur during the session. And to further cash on its eminence, online poker tournaments are also organized which players have to qualify for and can win exciting cash prizes thereon.

CAKE POKER NETWORK ON THE ROAD TO MALTA LICENSING
2010-11-17
Power Poker.com will be the first on the network to convert
The Cake Network online poker network has been granted a Class 4 Letter of Intent by the Malta Lotteries and Gaming Authority and, as such, is ready to commence Network operations.
Cake’s newly formed Malta operating company has also successfully completed Phase 1 of the application for a Class 3 License; Phase 2 is underway and the Class 3 LOI is scheduled to be provided on December 3rd.
The first partner to leverage this new licensing capability will be Power Poker. Players currently on PowerPoker.com will be given the option to move their accounts over to the Malta-licensed Cake operations where they will be able to take advantage of the favourable tax treatment afforded to an EU licensed operator.
A Cake spokesman said that the achievement of Malta licensing further enhances the Cake Network’s European presence by building on the resources and services that have successfully captured a significant worldwide market share of the white label poker market.
Cake Network, Director of Marketing, Andrew Turner observed: “This will greatly assist partners as they undertake further marketing within the European region and allow existing European White listed operators the opportunity to take advantage of the Cake Network’s suite of services.”
Haydon Is the New Champ: $2.5k 6-Max Hold'em Event at 2010 WSOP
2010-07-06
William Haydon finally secured victory in Event 26 of the 2010 WSOP – the $2.5k 6-Max Hold'em, which ended after a close battle amongst six-handed standards.
Jeff Papola was forced to move all-in with A♠ 6♥ all a few hands of heads-up play, but Haydon had A♣ J♥, and flop came K♠ Q♠ 4♥ and Papola hoped for a six. But, he wasn’t just in luck as 9♣ came on, and Papola needed a miracle river card to survive, but that wasn’t meant to be Papola’s day.
The river card came as T♦, and Haydon finished in first place with a handsome $630,031 payout, while Jeff Papola had to be content with second place, and total payout of $391,068, which wasn’t disappointing by any means!
The 2010 WSOP $2.5k 6-Max Hold'em Event kicked off with 1,245 runners featuring the likes of David Benefield, Sorel Mizzi, and Daniel Negreanu
It started with 1,245 runners and saw players like Daniel Negreanu, Sorel Mizzi and David Benefield, but most of the big guns got eliminated in the later stages leaving Haydon and Papola to compete for supremacy and the bracelet. The average stack was $9,337,500, and it was an action packed evening in Las Vegas.
Papopla, 2008 Aruba Classic third place finisher was one of the strong contenders, but Haydon made it to the final table literally out of nowhere, and the other hot favortite Steve Cowley got eliminated along with the other top contenders with a very short experience at the final table.
The leaderboard stacks before the final table were Jeff Papola - 2.8 million, Joe Baldwin - 2.1 million, followed by Eddy Scharf at 1.4 million, William Haydon - 1.3 million, and Jarred Solomon - 1.1 million. But, nobody ever thought in their wildest dreams that Haydon will walk away with the 2010 WSOP bracelet.
At 7:45 p.m. the official final table of six did not include Justin "BoostedJ" Smith, Etayo, and Smith who got all-in with J♦ T♥, ending up at eight spot receiving $55,236, in his clash against Joe Baldwin's A♦ K.
On the other hand, Javier Etayo had a great Spanish support, but he failed to make it to the final table, as he got all-in with A♥ K♠ against Jarred Solomon's Q♠ Q♣; a sudden twist of fate!
Etayo finished at seventh spot, and picked $55,236, while the top6 had a heated game on the final table, but the other 4 went out of the final table too early.
About Haydon
The 23year old winner comes from Palo Alto, CA, and happens to be a professional poker player who was a golf player before taking up Poker as full time profession.
He boasts of lifetime tournament winnings of about $662,994, and he has been fairly consistent in the Poker arena, though this was Haydon’s maiden WSOP bracelet.
His victory in the Full Tilt Poker $750,000 Guarantee was one of his most featured victories in past, and of course now Haydon can proudly boast of his WSOP bracelet too. But, as far as experience goes, this young gun has grown into an experienced professional poker player.

Low Limit Hold’em Strategy for Online Poker
2010-06-10
Limit Hold'em is a game of edges in online poker. You can’t de-stack people like you can in the big action game of no limit, but that’s OK because in limit Hold'em, your opponents will often have no idea how much of an edge you have on them. The limited betting amounts are deceptively small but they add up to significant profits over the long term, and a stable playing lifestyle, verse the volatile No-Limit game.
A common complaint heard from new players is that in low limit games, it’s impossible to bet enough to knock your opponents out of the pot and they always just end up drawing out on you. It is true that in low limit games you will lose many pots to draws, but if you are charging your opponents by betting and raising, you will profit over the long run. Remember, any time an opponent chases against the odds, you are profiting in online poker.
You always have to look to the long term in limit Hold'em. It’s a game of swings in the short run and steady profits (hopefully) in the long run. In pursuance of that long term profit, this strategy guide is going to briefly cover five topics:
1. Bankroll 2. Starting Hands 3. Position 4. Playing Tight-Aggressive 5. Pot Odds
Bankroll
Because of the swings you will encounter in limit Hold'em, it is critical that you strictly adhere to certain bankroll guidelines. The bankroll is the poker player’s lifeblood, but it is probably the most abused, mistreated thing in the poker world. It does not matter how good you are; you will experience major downswings as a result of simple variance.
The necessary bankroll size can vary based upon your goals and poker skill. Professional players need much larger bankrolls than casual players and no bankroll is big enough for big time losing players. The casual limit Hold'em player should have a minimum bankroll of at least 300 big bets for the limit they play at. As you move up in stakes and become more serious about the game, you’ll want to increase your bankroll up to about 600 big bets. Professional players may want to keep an even larger bankroll.
Stakes 300BB 600BB .10/.25 $75 $150 .25/.50 $150 $300 .50/1.00 $300 $600 1/2 $600 $1,200 2/4 $1,200 $2,400 3/6 $1,800 $3,600 5/10 $3,000 $6,000 10/20 $6,000 $12,000 20/40 $12,000 $24,000 30/60 $18,000 $36,000
Starting Hands
When choosing your starting hands, there are several factors to consider. First of all, you need to be able to judge what constitutes a quality starting hand. Big pairs and high card hands like AK and AQ are the most desirable, with other hands becoming playable in late position and as more players enter the pot.
In early position, you will want to play extremely tight, mostly sticking to the big pairs AA-TT and AK/AQ. Feel free to mix it up occasionally, but the risk of additional raises behind you and playing the entire hand from out of position make it difficult to play many hands profitably from early position in online poker.
In late position, you can loosen up a little bit with the starting hands. If several people have entered the pot, you can enter with speculative hands like suited connectors and small pairs. You can also come in with a raise with hands like KQ, AJ and 99. If nobody has entered the pot, you can steal with a wide variety of hands, depending on how hard the players in the blind positions defend their blinds. STAR LIST AT PARTY POKER GROWING
2010-01-25
Online poker division is building a formidable team
Party Gaming's online poker division, Party Poker continued to build its increasingly interesting professional player team this week with the addition of the often controversial, aggressive and outspoken Antanas "TonyG" Guoga, who lives in Melbourne, Australia but travels the world playing major tournaments.
He joins a pro team that includes Kara Scott, Felipe Ramos, Bodo Sbrzesny, Remy Biechel, Stewart Scott, Mike Sexton and Ian Frazer, who all now play in Party Poker colours.
The team is expected to be well represented at the main event of this year's Aussie Millions, a premier Asian Pacific live tournament currently running Downunder, and members will become a regular feature of Party Poker's online and live tournament activities.
Guoga has publishing and poker site interests, the latter branded TonyGPoker.com, which is to be moved to Party's Noble Poker on the iPoker network as part of the association of player and company.
With career winnings totalling over $4 million since 2003, Guoga has played in most of the world's big live tournaments. He has a big heart, too - in 2007 he donated his winner's prize of $205 000 in the Moscow Million championship to Russian orphanages.
